You do realize teens already know all of the words you've outlined as profanity? Encountering it in this book is not their first time to read it or see it. I really do not understand why you are hung up on this? Book banning never goes well in the annals of history. I mean, why aren't you talking about the Greek Tragedies? Don't you remember reading Oedipus Rex in school? Do you not remember reading anything similarly in school, with difficult, but real-world worthy content that challenged you? Reading something does not mean you become that thing. I sure did not say my first cuss word in school at 11 because I had read it in a book---I had heard adults say it and had heard it in movies---and a plethora of other kids who had said it. I mean, we all knew what Fuuuuuudddddggee meant in A Christmas Story. We all knew that crap was a substitute for shit. Golly was a sub for God, Dang was for Damn. None of this is new. I know you don't actually care but I'm honestly interested in how you came to these conclusions, your background in beginning to think book banning was a good idea, and what you actually think it will do in the long run. Do you ever read exvangelical and critical writings of purity culture?
